EPA Environmental Merit Award
On May 17, 2005, EPA Region 1 (New England) Regional Administrator Robert Varney presented Bath Iron Works with an Environmental Merit Award recognizing BIW for becoming a member of EPA’s National Performance Track Program and for “outstanding efforts in preserving New England’s environment.” Performance Track is a nationwide voluntary partnership program that recognizes and rewards private and public sector organizations that consistently demonstrate environmental compliance above and beyond legal requirements.

For more than three decades, EPA Region 1 has honored teachers, community activists, business leaders, scientists, government officials, and others who have exemplified true leadership in protecting public health and New England’s environment.
