On November 7, 2003, Maine Governor John Baldacci. presented BIW with an Award for achieving two of our STEP-UP goals. (http://www.maine.gov/dep/oc/stepup/index.htm)
As part of BIW’s STEP-UP Agreement (http://www.maine.gov/dep/oc/stepup/biw.htm) with the State of Maine, BIW agreed to reduce the amount of solid waste disposed of by 10% per equivalent DDG compared to 2001 levels. BIW achieved this goal during 2002.
By January 2006 BIW also agreed to reduce Hazardous Waste per DDG (compared to 2001) at each of it’s three manufacturing facilities by the following:
16%
at Bath Facility
25% at Hardings Facility
3% at EBMF
In 2002, BIW achieved reductions of 17% at the Bath Facility!
