BIW is a National Performance Track Program member (2004-2007).
Performance Track is a voluntary partnership program that recognizes
and rewards private and public facilities that demonstrate strong
environmental performance beyond current requirements.
Performance Track is designed to recognize facilities that
consistently meet their legal requirements and have implemented high-quality
environmental management systems.
Performance Track encourages facilities to continuously improve their environmental performance and to work closely with their community and employees. Once accepted, members remain in the program for three years, as long as they continue to meet the program criteria. After three years they may reapply.

Under Performance Track, BIW has agreed to achieve the following goals by 2007, based on 2003 levels:
Each year, participating facilities are required to file an Annual Performance Report in which they demonstrate to EPA and the public their environmental accomplishments over the past year, continued high level of environmental performance, and the maintenance of the Performance Track membership criteria. BIW is making their 2006 Annual Performance Report available for the public.
BIW is the first Shipbuilder to be accepted into Performance Track. There are now eight other Maine companies participating in the Performance Track program.
