Senior Mechanical Engineer

 

Detailed Description of Work:

·          Act as Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) for all assigned DDG and FFG machinery and propulsion ship alterations (ShipAlts)

·          Work with various Navy customers and other contractors in the development of technical requirements and the resolution of  issues as they develop

·          Assemble Government Furnished Information (GFI) and Vendor Furnished Information (VFI)  into packages suitable for use by Design in SID development

·          Brief shipcheck teams to ensure all applicable guidance is followed; accompany the design team on selected shipchecks

·          Provide technical support for ship installation design (SID) development for engineering issues associated with assigned ShipAlts

·          Write/review Ship Change Documents (SCDs) for all assigned ShipAlts

·          Participate in PEO SHIPS’ Technical Review Panel (TRP) as part of the SCD approval process

·          Support Design in the resolution of waterfront engineering issues that may arise during ShipAlt installation

·          Develop ROM estimates for emergent design and engineering work related to machinery and propulsion systems

·          Participate as a member of  and/or lead Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) in early development of ShipAlts

·          Participate in/lead off-site meetings and other events as required

·          Head up special projects as assigned

Qualifications for Position:

·          BS in engineering required; mechanical/marine engineering strongly preferred

·          5-10 years experience in machinery and propulsion system-ship integration required

·          Familiarity with ship construction and overhaul specifications is needed

·          Experience with Vendor Drawings and Purchase Specs helpful

·          Must have the flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure of changing and often-conflicting priorities

·          Ability to execute multiple simultaneous projects required

·          Strong research skills and the ability to pay attention to detail is required

·          Self motivation and a strong ability to contribute in a team environment required

·          Must be competent in MS Office products and generally PC savvy

·          Strong oral and written communication skills required
