Senior Engineer, Aviation

 

Detailed Description of Work:

Provide Aviation engineering support to the DDG 1000 Program

§         Apply extensive Air operational experience in the systems analysis area for DDG 1000

§         Work closely with the DDG 1000 Aviation IPT to assure aviation mission packages are effectively integrated into ship design

§         Develop Certification Requirements Document (CRD) for Aviation

§         Responsible for CDRL’s and actions related, but not limited to:

§         Aviation Systems Modeling and Simulation

§         Aviation Facilities Design and Certification plan

§         Aviation Safety and Firefighting plan

§         Aviation Communications plan

§         Aviation Combat Systems integration plan

§         Aviation Ordnance and Expendables allowance, storage, handling, safety, and shipboard interface

§         Dynamic Performance analysis

§         Derive ship requirements for conduct of aviation mission operations

§         Define ship operations required to conduct aviation mission operations

§         Establish performance requirements to support trade studies of alternative system configurations.

§         Analyze design to determine ship/aviation interface performance and requirements compliance

·        Oversee subcontracts related to Aviation, including NAVAIR

 

Qualifications for Position:

·        Bachelors degree in Engineering or technical degree required

·        5 - 10 years of collective experience in military aviation, to include;

·        U.S. Navy Helicopter pilot, or flight experience, highly desired

·        Experience performing helicopter missions from/to U.S. Navy combatant ships, ideally including deployments

·        Solid understanding of integration issues and challenges facing system utilization (including combat systems) between the ship systems and embarked helicopters

·        Experience overseeing Aviation Certification of U.S. Navy ships

·        Experience and understanding of naval combatant operational missions

·        Experience and knowledge of shipboard systems and procedures that support air operations

·        Experience in developing and implementing systems engineering analysis, processes and procedures

·        Strong communications skills required

·        Strong project management skills, computer, oral, written, analytical and interpersonal skills, coupled with an ability to work in a multi-discipline team, or independently, as required

·        Possess a SECRET clearance, or have the ability to readily obtain a clearance
