Principal Engineer, Shock

 

Detailed Description of Work:

·          Key role in DDG-1000 Global Shock Cross Product Team.  Responsible for working directly with BIW, NGSS, Raytheon, BAE Systems and all other DDG-1000 Design Agent prime contractors, as well as the Navy, in the management of all DDG-1000 Shock and Vibration design and qualification issues.

·          Responsible for supporting many aspects of DDG 1000 Shock and Vibration Qualification, including: specification development and interpretation, technical review of test procedures, test reports, test extensions, support preparation of technical submittals to the Navy and attending shock tests. 

·          Responsible for conducting DDG-1000 Whole Ship Transient Shock Analysis.

·          Responsible for conducting Transient Shock Analysis in support of large design or qualification test programs.

·          Responsible for development, application and/or review of analytical processes in support of DDG-1000 Shock Design and Qualification activities.

·          Participate in various shock inspections of equipment systems and shipboard installations.

·          Participate in evaluation of shock deficiencies and development of corrective design actions.

·          Support shock training initiatives for Design Agent prime contractors.

 

Qualifications for Position:

·          MS Degree in Civil, Mechanical Engineering or Physics required.  PhD in Civil, Mechanical Engineering or Physics preferred.

·          Minimum of 10 years technical experience in field of dynamic shock analysis.

·          Strong understanding of Underwater Explosion physics and phenomena.

·          Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, vibrations and structural dynamics.

·          Expertise in shock analyses using NASTRAN, USA, LS-DYNA and/or DYSMAS required.

·          Working knowledge of experimental testing, test data acquisition and test data analysis.

·          Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications required.

·          Working knowledge of HM&E shipboard equipment and systems preferred

·          Excellent organizational, written/verbal communication, and presentation skills required

·          Level and salary will be commensurate with experience

·          Ability to get Secret Security Clearance.
