Keel laid February 4,1891, launched December 9,1891, delivered and commissioned July 20,1893. 

First steel hulled ship built in Maine. A steamer and schooner rigged with square-rigged foremast and fore and aft- rigged mainmast. Reached 15.464 knots on trials, had 8-4" guns and a complement of 8 officers and 182 enlisted. To the Asiatic after delivery. Served in the Spanish-American War. Was part of the Great White Fleet which sailed around the World, December 1907 - February 1909. Served patrol and convoy escort duty in the Mediterranean during World War I. Sold to Mexican Navy October 29,1920 and renamed AQUA PRIETA. Scrapped in 1935.
