Keel laid February 4,1891, launched May 11,1892, delivered October 16,1893,commissioned Oct.22,1894. 

A steel hulled steamer and schooner rigged with square-rigged foremast and fore and aft-rigged mainmast. Had 8- 4" guns and a complement of 10 officers and 177 enlisted. To patrol off Brazil after delivery. Served in the Spanish-American War. Was part of the Great White Fleet which sailed around the World, December 1907 - February 1909. Served patrol and convoy escort duty in the Mediterranean during World War I. Sold at New Orleans Aug.25,1921 and converted to a banana boat. Lost in a collision in the Mississippi River December 12,1924.
