Lead ship of Class. Originally laid down as DD-927. Reached 36.5 knots on trials. Complement of 28 officers and 345 enlisted. Later converted to a Guided Missile Destroyer. Reclassified DDG-35 March 15,1967. Decommissioned and stricken from the United States Navy List June 1,1978. Sold for scrap July 1980.
