Lead ship of Class. Reached 27.58 knots on trials. The first United States Escort ship built after World War II. Complement of 12 officers and 161 enlisted. Participated in Atlantic, Pacific, Caribbean and Mediterranean exercises. Stricken from the United States Navy List and transferred to Uruguay July 28,1972. Renamed 18 DE JULIO, DE-3. Decommissioned in 1991.
