Apprenticeship Programs

BIW currently offers Apprenticeships in two categories: Manufacturing and Design. 

Successful completion of the Apprenticeship program results in a diploma from Bath Iron Works, journeyman certification from the State of Maine, and an Associate of Science degree in Ship Production or Ship Design from Maine Maritime Academy.

Admission Requirements

All applicants must be eligible for employment at Bath Iron Works. Admission to the Apprenticeship is highly competitive. Documentation must be provided verifying the following:

  • Minimum age of 18 at time of hire
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Demonstrate college readiness in reading, writing, and mathematics. College readiness is measured through the ACCUPLACER test administered through the Southern Maine Community College’s Midcoast Campus located in Brunswick, ME
