This ship was constructed and launched in 1945 by Federal Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Corp (Kearny, New Jersey; owned by US Steel) before the Navy issued a stop work order. The contract was subsequently transferred to BIW in late 1946 for completion as a prototype escort destroyer with advanced weapons systems. BIW delivered the modified destroyer in 1949, without having laid the keel or launched the hull.
