Gain the Skills to Succeed
Bath Iron Works has partnered with the Maine Community College System and Maine Quality Centers to offer workforce training programs. These programs are free to qualified applicants and provide training targeting specific kinds of jobs. Currently, courses are located on the SMCC Midcoast Campus in Brunswick and graduates receive an interview with our shipyard. Manufacturing technician and marine designer courses are currently being offered.

Manufacturing Technician Course
Those who take this course will learn technical skills such as blueprint reading, hand and power tool operation, oxy cutting, tack welding, drilling, fastening, technical math, lifting and material handling, operation of air tools and more. Earn while you learn with a weekly attendance incentive.

Prerequisites:
- 18 years old or older

Marine Designer Course
Gain practical, industry-relevant experience and skills to launch your career in marine design! Bath Iron Works will conduct job interviews with qualified applicants upon successful completion of the program.
Trainees will:
- Learn 3D modeling and visualization techniques
- Develop drafting skills used to create fabrication and installation drawings
- Gain experience resolving design challenges that arise during ship construction
Prerequisites:
- At least 18 years-old
- High School diploma, GED or HiSet
- U.S. Citizenship and/or authorization to work in the U.S. required (additional hiring restrictions may apply)
- Resident of Maine
- Testing may be required
- Good computer skills (e.g., proficiency with Microsoft Office tools) required
- Ability to read, interpret and follow technical procedures, standards and work
- 3D CAD or AUTOCAD proficiency preferred

Manufacturing Technician Course
This three-week course will cover multiple topics, including but not limited to: blueprint reading, technical math, hand and power tool safety and operation, use of air tools, oxy cutting, tack welding, basic layout and measuring, material handling, fastening, and drilling. This is a free training opportunity for Maine residents and includes a $500 weekly attendance incentive, as well as a job interview for qualified applicants upon completion.
