Every year, Bath Iron Works shipbuilders join together to give back to their community during the holiday season. Last year, employees participated in the Bath Area Food Bank Thanksgiving “Turkey” Donation and donated $3,225 in Thanksgiving gift cards, directly helping families within the greater Bath area.
Kim Parsons, Sr. Program Manager in Communications and Bath Area Food Bank board member, presented the donated cards to the food bank on behalf of our shipbuilders on November 21, in time to help many families this past Thanksgiving.

Additionally, BIW employees surpassed the Feed the Hungry Challenge goal last season, raising $9,339. That’s $1,800 more than was raised the year before. Each of five area food pantries received $1,867 – money that they can transform into thousands of dollars in healthy meals for people who can use a hand.
“I say it every year….I am amazed at that the generosity of the BIW family!” said Sr. Program Manager Bob Murray, who helps organize the annual effort, now in its 16th year. “I can’t thank the BIW family enough for their contributions. You have certainly made a difference for our communities.”
In addition to cash, the effort collected five carloads of food for distribution to the different food pantries. Programs benefitting from the drive include Bath Area Food Bank, St. Mary’s Food Pantry (Lewiston), Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program (Brunswick), Wayside Soup Kitchen (Portland) and Help Yourself Shelf (Wiscasset).
Furthermore, volunteers at the Outfit Fabrication Facility in Brunswick under the direction of Pipefitter Kevin Lucas collected dozens of meals for veterans over the holiday season.
We are proud of the work the BIW shipbuilding family does annually to support our local community and look forward to another successful season of giving back in 2026.
