Human Resource Sr. Manager Kiley Cyr was selected by MaineBiz as one of Maine’s “40 under 40,” which recognizes people under the age of 40 who are having a notable impact on their industry.

Cyr, manager of Total Rewards and Employee Services, was recognized in part for advocating for our Fit for Life program with onsite health coaches, athletic trainers and ergonomics specialists; working to remove stigma around mental health and its treatment; and her role in partnering with the YMCA to establish a childcare center in Brunswick prioritizing BIW families.

The Mainebiz 40 Under 40 awards honor rising leaders who have “demonstrated outstanding business success, a strong drive to reach their full career potential and a deep commitment to making a positive impact in their communities,” according to the business magazine.

MaineBiz Editor Peter Van Allen said in announcing Cyr’s recognition: “The selection committee made the decision based on your impact on the Maine business community and the enthusiasm you bring to your position.”

Cyr manages a team of more than 40 professionals dedicated to the health and welfare of the employees and families at BIW, providing oversight of employee health and benefits, an onsite occupational health clinic, human resources information systems, payroll and employee services.

Among Cyr’s accomplishments and initiatives considered by MaineBiz:

  • designing a benefits plan that fosters a sense of wellness rather than solely focusing on illness intervention and treatment.
  • advocating for onsite health coaches, athletic trainers and ergonomics specialists working alongside shipbuilders to help them prevent injury progression. This focuses on preventing injuries through education on proper cable-pulling techniques, safe lifting techniques and by addressing symptoms before they progress to an injury. BIW has experienced fewer injuries in areas with athletic trainers.
  • fostering a local farm share delivery program with Harvest Tide Organics where more than 100 summer farm shares are delivered weekly to BIW, providing shipbuilders with healthy food choices – a key to preventing chronic disease.
  • helping individuals connect with mental health services and removing stigma around mental health.
  • getting multiple Mamava Pods (dedicated breastfeeding stations) installed at BIW, the first locations in the state.
  • working with the Bath Area Family YMCA and the U.S. Navy to stand up a new childcare center in Brunswick to provide quality care for up to 120 children of BIW employees.

“Kiley is invested in the success of individual employees – whether it be raising healthy families, making the most of the benefits they have available or keeping themselves healthy and performing at a high level,” said Vice President, Human Resources, Ray Steen.
