As a proud American, Independence Day is an important day of celebration that comes every year on the fourth of July. It is usually a day full of activities, from parades, town celebrations, barbeques and concerts all with family and friends, to the fireworks display marking the end of the festivities. It’s one of those days that you are so busy that it’s hard to get some rest…
BIW has a long history here on the Kennebec River building ships. We also have a long history and partnership with the city of Bath. This history goes back to the origins of our company. One of the ways we have demonstrated our partnership over the years is by participating in the Bath Heritage Days celebration – specifically by being active participants in their parade.
We haven’t participated in the past several years, but this year we are going in big! We plan to have four trucks in the parade – two of our wrapped pickup trucks carrying historical pictures in the bed, a float truck and SB1 (Shipbuilder 1 – our over-the-road virtual training rig). Our entry represents this year’s Bath Heritage Days theme of “50 years of Family, Fun and Fireworks.” Most of the senior leadership team along with another 70 or so people from across BIW will walk in the parade, too. It should be a nice time!
I hope to see some of you at the parade tomorrow, but if I don’t, please make sure that you have a safe and happy Independence Day!
See you on the deckplates!
