Welcome Ray Steen, New VP of HR

Yesterday we announced that Ray Steen will be joining the BIW team as Vice President, Human Resources on June 18. Ray has a strong background in organizational development, labor relations, continuous improvement and team building. These skills and his long experience as an HR professional will help us move our organization forward.

Together with the leadership team, we will be looking at the ways in which we can position our organization to improve our training—from new hires to new supervisors to safety for all employees, to improve our employees’ experiences and to make BIW an even better place to work.

Our new Vice President will not be able to do this on his own. Improving the work experience at BIW will take all of us.

From greeting a co-worker with a smile, to keeping your work space clean and organized, to sharing knowledge to help a less-experienced employee—there are small things we can do each day that will strengthen our organization.

We must start with making our shipyard the safest place to work and then look to make sure we are using the best practices in all we do.

First-time quality reduces rework and helps us deliver ships on time. Knowing we did the job right the first time makes us all proud of our work, and that too will make BIW an even better place to work.

The best shipbuilders in the world deserve a best place to work.
