Home BIW Legacy Vault USS Williamsburg (PG-56)

In 1945, Bath-built USS Williamsburg (PG-56) became President Harry Truman’s personal yacht and gained a reputation as the ‘seagoing White House.’ Dignitaries such as Winston Churchill were invited to conferences on board, while the vessel sailed around the world taking Truman on a series of exotic vacations. However, when Dwight Eisenhower became president, he was less enamored of the ship, and ordered her to be decommissioned after just one voyage on June 30, 1953.
